In news that’s sure to bore you, the CRTC has approved the sale of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment to Canadian media giants Bell (parent of TSN) and Rogers Communications (parent of Sportsnet).
The CRTC is Canada’s regulatory agency for broadcasting and telecommunications, i.e. the FCC of the Great White North.
MLSE owns the NHL’s Maple Leafs, NBA’s Raptors and Toronto FC of the MLS.
To gain the regulator’s approval, BCE and Rogers agreed to spend $7.5 million on sports-themed programming by Canadian independent producers.
