Video: Coyotes GM breaks down Sullivan, compares him to Ray Whitney

Pittsburgh Penguins v Philadelphia Flyers - Game Four

PHILADELPHIA, PA - APRIL 18: Steve Sullivan #26 of the Pittsburgh Penguins celebrates his powerplay goal at 10:55 of the second period against the Philadelphia Flyers in Game Four of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals during the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at Wells Fargo Center on April 18, 2012 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Coyotes GM Don Maloney wasn’t able to re-sign Ray Whitney this summer, but he thinks he might have found his replacement in Steve Sullivan. Whitney inked a two-year, $9 million deal with the Dallas Stars while Sullivan agreed to a bargain bin level one-year, $1,850,000 contract that balloons to $2.6 million if you include his potential performance bonuses.

Check out the video below if you’re interested in learning more about what Maloney sees in Sullivan.

Sullivan certainly has big shoes to fill. He’s coming off a 48-point campaign while Ray Whitney netted 24 goals and registered 53 assists in 82 games last season. That being said, Sullivan should play in a bigger role in Phoenix than he did in 2011-12 with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
