Crombeen on CBA negotiations: “I think you can always wish it was further along”

BJ Crombeen

We got about six weeks until the current CBA expires. The players’ union and NHL have conducted plenty of talks already, but so far the NHLPA hasn’t made a counter offer to the league’s initial proposal.

“I think you can always wish it was further along,” said recently acquired Lightning forward B.J. Crombeen, according to the Tampa Bay Times. “Everyone wishes there was a deal in place now, but it’s something that takes time to understand.”

To that end, they have recently requested financial documentation from the NHL. The first batch, which was in the ballpark of 76,000 pages, has been delivered.

Crombeen was asked if he thought the owner’s initial proposal called for the players to surrender too much.

“Obviously, from a player’s perspective you would always say that,” Crombeen said. “But I’m sure the owners would always say the opposite.”

Crombeen emphasized that the players are focused on trying to understand where the owners are coming from rather than jump to conclusions.

The two sides are set to meet again on Tuesday.
