Rick Nash finally got his way today, as the New York Rangers acquired him in a blockbuster trade. Nash answered some questions about that swap earlier, starting with his thoughts on how he’ll fit in with New York (via Pat Leonard).
“They’re one of the top teams in the league, and the players that they have are pretty impressive – from the goaltending to the defense right up – and I’m happy to be part of the organization and part of the whole city,” Nash said. “Last season obviously they were one of the best teams, and I thought it was a great fit for my style to play there.”
Nash spent his entire career with the Columbus Blue Jackets, eventually taking on the role of captain. The Associated Press gathers his diplomatic views on his former team’s takeaway in the deal:
“The biggest thing is that when management said when they were going to make a rebuild and a reshape, I thought the best thing for the team and the organization would be to get assets for me,” he said. “And I thought it would be best for my career.”
