The Vancouver Canucks didn’t have to go to arbitration to successfully reduce Mason Raymond’s salary. The speedy winger has signed a one-year, $2.275 million contract, down from the $2.6 million he earned last season.
In June, the Canucks filed so-called “cutdown” arbitration in an effort to lower Raymond’s salary to as low as $2.21 million.
The 26-year-old didn’t get much more than that, but at least he doesn’t have to go to arbitration and hear all the reasons his team feels he deserves a pay cut.
Raymond had a disappointing 10 goals and 10 assists in 2011-12. Granted, he only made 55 appearances after missing the first part of the season with a serious back injury that was suffered in the Stanley Cup finals.
His best season was 2009-10 when he scored 25 times and added 28 assists, after which he inked a two-year, $5.1 million deal.
