Goalie Jonas Gustavsson has signed a two-year, $3 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings. The Monster goes from Toronto (via Winnipeg) to serve as Jimmy Howard’s backup.

Gustavsson, 27, struggled with the Maple Leafs last season, posting a 17-17-4 record with a .902 save percentage. (Though to be fair, the guys in front of him didn’t make it easy.)

In Detroit, he’ll join fellow Swedes Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen, Niklas Kronwall, Jonathan Ericsson, Gustav Nyquist and maybe Tomas Holmstrom.
