The Washington Capitals haven’t been a major player on the first day of the free agency period, but they won’t be going to sleep empty-handed.
TSN’s Darren Dreger is reporting that the Washington Capitals have signed Joey Crabb to a one-year, $950,000 contract. The Washington Times’ Stephen Whyno confirmed that it is a one-way deal.
Crabb is definitely something of a late-bloomer and has played in just 144 NHL games at the age of 29. However, he set career-highs in 2011-12 with 11 goals and 15 assists in 67 contests.
He was also one of just five Leafs’ players to play in at least 60 games and still finish the season with a positive or neutral plus/minus rating.
Crabb isn’t afraid to throw his body around and puts up decent offensive numbers for a bottom-six forward. He’ll probably end up serving on the Capitals’ third line and help kill penalties.
This is the biggest contract of Crabb’s career and the first one-way deal he’s ever signed.
