Flyers GM Holmgren on Pronger: “He struggles”

Chris Pronger

Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren met with the media on Tuesday and gave an update on concussed captain Chris Pronger, one that cast doubt on Pronger’s chances for returning at the start of next season.

“I think it’s too soon,” Holmgren said. “We’re still holding out hope that he can, that he starts to get better [and] turns a corner in that regard, and I would say right now there haven’t been any signs that show us that that’s in the near future.

“He continues to have some good days and then some bad days. So I don’t know if that’s any update. He struggles.”

Doctors diagnosed Pronger with severe post-concussion syndrome on Dec. 15, the last in what was an injury-plagued start to the season (he played just 13 games all told.)

Since then, very little has come out of the Flyers camp in terms of status updates, though Holmgren did shoot down Pronger retirement rumors last week.
