Tomas Vokoun never officially became an unrestricted free agent this summer, but there was plenty of interest for him once it became clear that the Washington Capitals had no intention of re-signing him.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were reportedly one of the teams that went after Vokoun. The Leafs are expected to prioritize getting a goaltender this summer after James Reimer’s disappointing sophomore season. However, Toronto was apparently not warm to the idea of inking Vokoun to a two-year deal.

It’s a little more surprising that that the Philadelphia Flyers were in the market for Vokoun. Philadelphia made a nine-year/$51 million commitment to Ilya Bryzgalov in the summer of 2011, so he’s not going anywhere, but they might be less than satisfied with their backup, Sergei Bobrovsky.

Of course, it’s a moot point now because Philadelphia reportedly couldn’t make it work under the current salary cap and Vokoun ended up going to Pittsburgh. Still, it could be a sign that Philadelphia is in the market for goaltending help. Again.
