Blues GM: Tarasenko hasn’t signed in the KHL

Vladimir Tarasenko

Don’t worry Blues fans – Vladimir Tarasenko is still coming to St. Louis.

“There have been inaccurate reports stating that Vladimir Tarasenko has signed a contract to play hockey in Russia,” Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said. “I have confirmed with the player and his agent that these reports are 100% false and Vladimir is committed to join our organization for the upcoming season. We will have no further comment on this matter.”

Tarasenko, 20, was drafted 16th overall in 2010. He’s played in the KHL since 2008-09. In 2011-12, he scored 23 goals in 54 games with both Novosibirsk Siber and St. Petersburg SKA.

Yahoo!’s Dmitry Chesnokov reports that SKA “technically” re-signed Tarasenko to retain the player’s rights, which is presumably where the confusion started.
