Joel Ward: “It was good to rebound”

Of all the Washington Capitals who were happy to win Game 6 against the New York Rangers, Joel Ward probably breathed the biggest sigh of relief. He might not get a complete pardon for the high-sticking double-minor that helped turn Game 5, but ultimately, the Capitals can advance to the Eastern Conference with a win on Saturday.

Ward told Stephen Whyno that he was glad to win and grateful that his teammates backed him up the whole way.

“I think anytime you win in the playoffs it’s a good feeling,” Ward said. “It was good to rebound a little bit and get out there and just get it going again. Guys have been unbelievable; [Matt Hendricks] and [Troy Brouwer were] really supportive the last couple days, just cheering me on. I knew I could do it and believed in myself.”

One could probably say the same about the Capitals as a whole, who are just one game away from the first trip to the Eastern Conference finals since the days of Petr Bondra and Olaf Kolzig.
