Bob McKenzie: “Torres hit is illegal on so many levels.”

Raffi Torres, Marian Hossa

As you might imagine, Raffi Torres’ hit on Marian Hossa has resulted in some strong emotions, and for good reason. If you missed the hit and have no idea what I’m talking about, you can view it below:

Hossa appeared badly hurt on the play. He left the game on a stretcher and was then put in an ambulance.

Torres wasn’t punished for his actions - at least not yet. He might still be suspended.

There were plenty of noteworthy hockey writers that voiced their opinions in the immediate aftermath of the hit, but when a leading voice in the hockey community speaks up like Bob McKenzie did Tuesday night, that rings a little louder than most.

“The Torres hit is illegal on so many levels,” McKenzie said on Twitter. “It is charging. It is interference (late). It is a targeted head shot where he launches upward. The hit caused significant injury. The player (Torres) is a repeat offender in every sense of the term.”

Sounds like McKenzie thinks Torres should be suspended.
