The Kings have taken a 2-0 series lead against the Presidents’ Trophy winning Vancouver Canucks, but they all know that won’t mean anything unless they manage to win two more contests. So, to keep his team focused after their 4-2 victory on Friday, Kings coach Darryl Sutter started listing off areas where the Kings need to improve.
“We know we have to play better,” Mike Richards said. “They controlled most of the game last night. They played well. Quickie had to make some big saves, and we probably relied on him too much last night. We’re at home right now, where we feel comfortable. We have to go in with confidence, but know that we have to play better. … I thought we turned too many pucks over last night, and gave them too many opportunities, which allowed them to play in our zone a whole lot.”
Obviously no team wants to fall behind 3-0, so it’s a safe bet that Vancouver will play passionately and desperately in Game 3 on Sunday. If the Kings don’t make adjustments, then what they managed to get away with so far might cost them going forward.
