It didn’t take long for Brent Sutter to find new work. After parting ways with the Flames yesterday, today Sutter was named head coach of Team Canada at this year’s world championships in Finland and Sweden.

Guy Boucher and Kirk Muller, the head coaches of Tampa Bay and Carolina, respectively, will be Sutter’s assistants.

Sutter’s acceptance of the job has to be seen as a sign he wants to get back to coaching in the NHL as soon as possible. If he wanted a rest, he’d have taken one.

He’ll certainly have a lot of talent to work with on Team Canada. Among the Canadians already committed to representing their country in May are Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, John Tavares, Jordan Eberle, Jeff Skinner, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Evander Kane, Andrew Ladd, Jay Bouwmeester, Dion Phaneuf, P.K. Subban and Cam Ward.
