Briere’s one of the best post-lockout playoff performers

Danny Briere

Danny Briere is hands down one of the best playoff performers in the post-lockout era. How many other guys can score despite the handicap of being offside?

Still, Briere’s controversial goal wouldn’t have been a factor if he hadn’t managed to score again in the third period. It was a big night for him and far from his first headline-worthy postseason performance. Regardless of how he does in the regular season, Briere rises above the crowd in the playoffs. In fact, after Wednesday’s games, Briere is now tied with Henrik Zetterberg for the lead in postseason points since the lockout.

Briere scored twice on Wednesday, while Zetterberg found the back of the net once, to tie them up at 95 playoff points in the post-lockout era. Of course, it helps that both players have advanced to at least the first round in every season since the lockout. Briere managed to accomplish that feat by spending 2005-06 and 2006-07 with Buffalo before heading to Philadelphia. Still, that leaves Briere with an extremely impressive 95 points in 93 playoff games.

On a team that includes Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell, and Jaromir Jagr, the man the Penguins might need to worry about the most is Briere.
