Video: Datsyuk’s clever tactic almost results in a stunning goal

Pavel Datsyuk

With the game tied at 1 and time running out in the third period of Detroit’s contest against Florida, Pavel Datsyuk decided to get creative. He had the puck behind the Panthers’ next and decided to flip it over the goal. The idea was to bounce the puck against the back of Scott Clemmensen’s head and into the net for what would have been one of the most memorable goals of the season. However, Clemmensen saw through Datsyuk’s plan and was able to duck in time. You can watch the play below:

Clemmensen’s actions allowed the Panthers to preserve the tie and pick up a valuable point as they attempt to end their run of 10 consecutive seasons without making the playoffs. However, Clemmensen wasn’t able to best Jimmy Howard in the shootout, so Detroit still ended up with the win.
