Hossa should be the next to hit 1,000 points

Ray Whitney scored his 1,000th career point last night in Phoenix’s 4-0 victory over Anaheim. In case you’re curious, here are the next 10 active players (age in brackets) after Whitney on the career points list:

Jason Arnott (37) – 938

Marian Hossa (33) - 903

Patrik Elias (35) - 890

Martin St. Louis (36) - 848

Vincent Lecavalier (31) - 839

Patrick Marleau (32) - 826

Ryan Smyth (36) - 806

Milan Hejduk (36) - 794

Shane Doan (35) - 786

Ilya Kovalchuk (28) – 782

If Arnott makes it to 1,000 by retirement, it’ll be by a nose. Barring injury or premature retirement, Hossa, Elias, St. Louis, Lecavalier, Marleau, and Kovalchuk should all hit the mark at some point as well. We’ll bet on Hossa to get there first.
