Just when things were finally starting to look up for Steve Mason, his hot streak was derailed by a freak injury inflicted on him by his own teammate. John Moore fell into the net midway through the game and accidentally sliced Mason’s left hand with his skate. The cut reached the bone, according to Mason, but he thinks he managed to escape the incident without suffering any tendon damage.
Still, Mason won’t be the Blue Jackets’ starter on Saturday and there’s a good chance he’ll also miss Sunday’s game. A more detailed timetable is not available, but he is expected to be re-evaluated on Friday.
Mason had allowed just four goals in three starts going into Thursday’s game against Los Angeles and he stopped 16 of 17 Kings shots before sustaining the injury. Columbus ended up winning the game 3-1 and Mason still earned his fourth straight victory.
