Chicago falls to 0-for-39 on the power play

Patrick Sharp

It’s been more than a month since the Chicago Blackhawks last power-play goal. Let that sink in for a minute. They haven’t netted a goal with the man advantage on the road since Dec. 14. They have let 39 consecutive power-play opportunities come and go without scoring.

To make matters worse, they allowed two power-play goals in their 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. They now rank 27th in the league in penalty killing percentage and are 24th and falling in terms of their power-play conversion rate. That’s a huge issue for a team that, at one time, appeared to be a contender for the Central Division title. It’s certainly something they need to address with only a month and a half to go in the regular season and it’s food for thought as we approach the trade deadline.
