NHL: Winter Classic at Big House isn’t “done deal”

Not so fast on that Winter Classic story – the NHL is denying it’s a “done deal” that the 2013 edition will be played at Michigan Stadium.

The league’s deputy commissioner, Bill Daly, tells the Globe and Mail in an email, “if and when anything is a ‘done deal’ regarding the Winter Classic, it will be announced. We have made no announcements yet.”

Sources tell the Globe that one of the big issues that remains to be solved is alcohol – specifically, the serving of it at the Big House.

Serving alcohol isn’t currently permitted at the college stadium and the NHL wants a liquor license for the game. (We can think of a certain league sponsor that might feel the same way.)
