The Pittsburgh Penguins should soon have one of their top players back in the lineup. General manager Ray Shero told reporters today that defenseman Kris Letang has been cleared for contact and game action.
Letang (concussion) has been out since Nov. 26 when he was checked hard by Montreal’s Max Pacioretty. The 24-year-old was an early candidate for the Norris Trophy before he was injured. He won’t play Tuesday when the Penguins host Carolina, as he’ll need to shake off the rust in practice first.
Pens beat writer Josh Yohe (Tribune-Review) is speculating Letang could make his return after the All-Star break.
