Talbot livid over headshot: “I felt it was a pretty dangerous hit”

Philadelphia center Max Talbot is none too pleased with the headshot he received from Islanders defenseman Steve Staios during a 3-2 Flyers win Thursday night.

Here’s the hit in question:

Staios didn’t receive a penalty on the play and Talbot did return to the game, ending up on the ice for Sean Couturier’s game-winning goal. But that didn’t keep him from expressing displeasure with the hit in a postgame scrum.

“I had zero idea,” Talbot told CSN Philadelphia. “I think that’s what we’re trying to stop in the NHL … shots like that, head shots. I had no time to react and I felt the point of contact was my head. I didn’t see the replay, but from what I felt it was a pretty dangerous hit.”

The hit also displeased Talbot’s coach, Peter Laviolette.

“I saw it happen live, I haven’t seen it on videotape,” he said. “When I saw it live, I didn’t like it.”

According to CSN’s Sarah Baicker, Staios was not made available to the Philadelphia reporters after the game and didn’t address the hit with the New York media.
