Apparently Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins are the “Diaper Snipers”

Eberle-RNH

Writing about the All-Star snubbing of Oilers phenoms Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (the NHL said both would’ve made it if they weren’t hurt), David Staples of the Edmonton Journal dropped some mad nickname science:

Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins, the Diaper Snipers, would have been in the All-Star Game if they weren’t injured.

Wait, is this a thing? Have I been out of the loop here? Diaper Snipers? Really?

Turns out that yes, the loop is sans Halford as the Diaper Snipers moniker has been around for a while:

Nov. 1, 2011: Road Adventure for Oilers’ Nugent-Hopkins

“I’ve never been to California before,” said Burnaby, B.C. boy RNH of the line some are now calling the Diaper Snipers.

So yeah, that’s a thing...and I guess that thing usually includes linemate Taylor Hall, who certainly fits the Diaper Sniper criteria. I also assume Magnus Paajarvi is on the outside looking in (or settling for the “Soiled Diaper” moniker.)

As for the nickname itself -- Diaper Snipers might seem a little hokey, but I guess it beats “Young Guns” or “Baby Oils” or “Lil’ Nuge, T-Hall and Young Ebzy” or whatever else kids are calling themselves these days. /shakes cane angrily
