Marchand gets max fine for slew-footing

The NHL has announced that Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand has been fined $2,500 -- the maximum allowable under the CBA -- for slew-footing Penguins defenseman Matt Niskanen on Monday:

Even though it looked like a dirty piece of business, the slew-foot only netted Marchand a two-minute tripping minor.

It’s possible that Brendan Shanahan’s decision to fine Marchand -- and not suspend him -- could come under some scrutiny. Noseface is a repeat offender (he received a two-game suspension for elbowing RJ Umberger in the head last season) and in 2009, then-Anaheim forward Evgeny Artyukhin received a three-game suspension...for slew-footing Matt Niskanen, ironically enough.

(Though as our very own Jason Brough just pointed out, not all slew foots are created equal.)
