If for nothing else, the NHL is proving to be consistent on one particular brand of punishment this year. When you catch a player in the head with an elbow, you’re going to sit down for two games.
Such is the case for Blue Jackets defenseman Jan Hejda who will sit for the team’s next two games for his elbow to the head of Blackhawks rookie winger Marcus Kruger. Hejda will miss the team’s next two games against St. Louis (April 3) and Dallas (April 5) and be eligible to come back on April 8 against Nashville. Hejda was booked for two minutes during the game for the hit and obviously caught the eye of the league with the shot.
Hejda is one of the Jackets more consistent defensemen with five goals and 15 assists and a -4 rating. Considering he’s playing for Columbus, that -4 isn’t all bad.
For his elbow, Hejda will cough up $21,505.38 for his games missed to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
