Well, the San Jose Sharks’ Pacific Division lead sure was short-lived, as the Dallas Stars slipped back into first place by earning a charity point in their loss to the Phoenix Coyotes.

But the team made a little bit more news today, even if it was a trade that isn’t remotely as important as the Toronto-Anaheim or Florida-Chicago swaps.

David Pollak reports that the Sharks sent blueliner Jay Leach and center Steve Zalewski to the New Jersey Devils for two minor league forwards: Michael Swift and Patrick Davis.

Leach played 28 games with the Sharks in 2009-10, while the rest of the players haven’t had many sniffs at high-level competition. If this trade makes anything more than a minimal impact, it’s likely that it won’t be felt anytime soon.
