Last night’s 3-0 New Jersey win over Phoenix seemed like the kind of game the Devils wish they got every night from their team. They played tough, they got timely goals and their superstars showed up in a big way. Not only did Ilya Kovalchuk score two goals but Martin Brodeur earned his 113th career shutout as well.
As if all that wasn’t already impressing the hell out of you, Brodeur even threw in one magnificent save to send the fans in New Jersey home happily and remembering what it’s like when the Devils play their brand of hockey. Brodeur’s diving stop on Coyotes youngster Kyle Turris is the sort of thing that will keep Turris’ head shaking and the fans chanting for “Marty.”
