Save of the night: Nikolai Khabibulin’s unbelievable shootout save on Corey Perry

You’ll be hearing a lot about how the Ducks and Oilers went ten rounds in the shootout last night to decide the game, one which the Ducks ultimately won.

One of the big reasons why it went ten rounds is because of the play in goal by both Jonas Hiller and Nikolai Khabibulin. Khabibulin, however, looked like the guy we saw win the Stanley Cup in 2004 a few times, with one in particular standing out above all others.

Corey Perry was up for Anaheim with a chance to end the game and the shootout and as he took a long route on the way towards the goal, he sold a forehand shot, deked and went to put it past a sprawling Khabibulin on the backhand. What Perry thought would be a money goal and a game-winner turned out to be our save of the night as Khabibulin kicked his leg up to knock down the shot. Truly remarkable athleticism from the 38 year-old goaltender.
