Goals of the night: Chris Kelly’s hat trick takes out New York

Senators forward Chris Kelly isn’t really the kind of guy you’d refer to as a goal scorer. After having a breakout performance in 2007 when the Sens reached the Stanley Cup finals, Kelly’s gone back to a role he’s more familiar in as a third line center and checker. When he’s centering a line with guys like Chris Neil and Jarkko Ruutu, his job is mainly to just be the good cop when between two bad cops.

Yesterday against the Rangers, the slumping Sens offense has Kelly to thank for helping lead them to victory as Kelly netted a hat trick in their 3-1 win over the Rangers. On a team that has stars like Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza to do the scoring, the decidedly blue collar Kelly carrying the team is a welcome surprise especially after the team was shutout by Buffalo just the night before. As for Kelly’s trick, here it is in all of its common man glory.
