Today’s starting goalies - October 15

Whether you’re interested for fantasy hockey reasons or just want to know which goalie your team is playing in a given day, we thought it might be helpful to share our best guesses (based on various previews from newspapers and Web sites plus our own instincts) on who might start each day.

7:00 PM ET games

Colorado @ New Jersey

Likely Colorado starter: Craig Anderson - Anderson has an interesting opportunity this season. If he puts together another great season, he’s likely to garner a nice deal like, say, Jonas Hiller. If he flounders, he’ll likely struggle in what could be a tough 2011 free agent market. He’ll get a bunch of starts to prove himself this season. (Source: Denver Post.)

Likely New Jersey starter: Martin Brodeur - When in doubt, start Brodeur. It’s almost safer just to leave him in every evening, to be honest. (Source: Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger.)

NY Islanders @ Pittsburgh

Likely Islanders starter: Rick DiPietro - It’s still kind of surprising that DiPietro is playing again, isn’t it? (Source: Islanders Twitter Feed.)

Likely Pittsburgh starter: Brent Johnson - Johnson (1-0) was strong in the Penguins’ only win of the season while Marc-Andre Fleury is 0-3 so far. Sometimes the math is that easy. (Source: AP preview.)

Toronto @ NY Rangers

Likely Toronto starter: J.S. Giguere - Giguere has been great so far, but the Leafs are giving both goalies a healthy chance to prove themselves. Beating the Rangers in Madison Square Garden would solidify an already strong start for Toronto. (Source: Toronto Sun.)

Likely NY Rangers starter: Henrik Lundqvist - I feel pretty safe in guessing that King Hank will be the man in net for the Rangers tonight.

Chicago @ Columbus

Likely Chicago starter: Marty Turco - It’s weird to call a game this early in the season “crucial,” but Turco really needs to start getting some wins. People are starting to make some Cristobal Huet jokes already (Source: Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago.)

Likely Columbus starter: Steve Mason - The good news: Patrick Kane will miss tonight’s game with the flu. The bad news: the Blackhawks still employ Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp. (Source: Tom Reed.)

7:30 PM ET game

Montreal @ Buffalo

Likely Montreal starter: Carey Price - Price has been fantastic so far, so I doubt we’ll see Alex Auld anytime soon.

Likely Buffalo starter: Ryan Miller - I’m going out on a limb with both of the goalie choices, here. I think these are pretty safe guesses.

10:00 PM ET game

Atlanta @ Anaheim

Likely Atlanta starter: Chris Mason - Until Ondrej Pavelec is healthy enough to play, expect Mason to get a ton of starts in Atlanta’s net. (Source: AP preview.)

Likely Anaheim starter: Jonas Hiller - He’s going to have to struggle mightily to lose his stranglehold on the No. 1 spot. (Source: AP preview.)

10:30 PM ET game

Vancouver @ Los Angeles

Likely Vancouver starter: Roberto Luongo - As promising as Corey Schneider might be, expect Luongo to get almost all the starts (aside from a break here or there).

Likely Los Angeles starter: Jonathan Quick - Quick earned the right to be the “1a” if not outright starter in Los Angeles. The competition from fellow Jonathan Bernier could very well be a good thing for Quick ... almost certainly will benefit the Kings. (Source: Los Angeles Kings official Web site.)
