The San Jose Sharks continue to fill out their own depth and taking care of restricted free agent defenseman Derek Joslin, re-signing him to a one-year deal. Joslin helps provide the now Rob Blake-less Sharks with some more firm depth on the blue line and perhaps Joslin will be able to avoid the ever-uncomfortable shuttle back and forth between San Jose and their AHL affiliate in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Last year, Joslin appeared in 23 Sharks games landing three assists and 12 penalty minutes. In Worcester, his production came in 55 games scoring five goals and earning 27 assists and 29 penalty minutes. The 23 year-old defenseman figures to compete for the spot as the team’s sixth defenseman but more than likely will end up back in Worcester for more development.

Joslin was the Sharks fifth round pick in the 2005 NHL draft.
