2010 NHL Entry Draft: Boston Bruins draft preview

Visit NBC’s Draft Headquarters for our complete coverage of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

The Bruins have a problem, albeit a great one to have. With the second overall pick in the draft the Bruins are going to get the franchise player they haven’t had since they traded Joe Thornton to San Jose. While the Bruins are loaded through their organization with talent up the middle, adding either Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin gives them someone great to plug into their lineup immediately next season. Only issue there is that there could be a logjam of centers. Hello trade rumors! The B’s will also need to add defensive and left wing depth to the organization and with nine picks overall (5 in the top 100), they’re in good shape to do just that.

2010 draft picks:

Round 1 - 2nd
Round 2 - 32nd
Round 3 - 45th
Round 4 - 97th
Round 5 - 135th
Round 6 - 165th
Round 7 - 195th

Top prospects (per Hockey’s Future):\

1. Joe Colborne, C
2. Brad Marchand, RW
3. Yuri Alexandrov, D
4. Zach Hamill, C
5. Jordan Caron, RW
6. Tommy Cross, D
7. Jamie Arniel, C
8. Mikko Lehtonen, RW
9. Jeff Penner, D
10. Andrew Bodnarchuk, D

PHT’s mock draft results:

2 - Tyler Seguin - C - Plymouth (OHL)

Seguin may ultimately develop into the more complete player between himself and Hall, as he is certainly the most well-rounded playmaker in this year’s draft. He’s a center that makes the players around him better, and he’ll get the chance to make an instant difference next season in Boston.

What the blogs are saying:

Stanley Cup of Chowder:

According to what I have read and heard, Hall is more of a pure goal scorer, while Seguin is more of a playmaker, who makes the players around him better. I think the Bruins need more of what Taylor Hall brings, but if the Oilers take Hall, the B’s are still getting a special player in Seguin.

The 6'1" 172 lb centerman finished first in the OHL with 106 points this season (48-58-106) and was awarded the Red Tilson Trophy this season as the OHL Most Outstanding Player.
