After weeks of knowing this was coming, Rob Blake sat before the media today in San Jose and formally announced his retirement from the game of hockey. Courtesy of David Pollack of the San Jose Mercury News:
“It was a dream,” he said of the chance to compete in the NHL, “and I can sit up here and say I was lucky enough to live it.”
Blake also noted that he was grateful to not have injury force him into retirement. He played in 1,720 NHL games, won a Stanley Cup and played in eight international tournaments as part of Team Canada. The Sharks have made it known they’d like to have Blake return to work for the team sometime in the future.
