Three pontential investors interested in Thrashers

According to Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Atlanta Thrashers have three potential investors interested in becoming part of the Atlanta Spirit, the company that owns the Hawks and the Thrashers.

Bruce Levenson, Atlanta Spirit co-owner, said after the season that there were looking for minority investors in the Thrashers to give the team more “financial muscle"; now it seems as though they’ve found a few who are definitely interested. Per Vivlamore:

Levenson said that each of the parties are “at different stages of doing their due diligence.” He said, based on the potential investors goals, that all three investors would not commit financially to the group, but that “one or more” was a possibility. Levenson also told the AJC that investor interest ranges from one to both of the Hawks and Thrashers franchises.

The ownership group is not interested in selling the majority stake of the team, nor are they interested in moving the franchise.

Of course, that’s exactly what Tom Hicks stated last year about the Dallas Stars before later announcing the future sale of the team. Of course, Hicks and Levenson are in somewhat different places financially, but you have to wonder about the state of the Hawks and Thrashers as they look for more investors to help out with the financial aspects of the franchise.
