Cammalleri leads Habs to 2nd period lead

At some point, the Montreal Canadiens had to take advantage of their home ice atmosphere. The Bell Centre is perhaps the most electric and loudest arena in the NHL, and so far in the playoffs the Habs have had trouble playing their best at home. With Mike Cammalleri leading the way in yet another elimination game for the Habs, they are finally playing some of their best hockey in front of their emotional and boisterous fans.

The Penguins initially came out on fire in the second period, breaking a 1-1 tie with a Kris Letang power play goal, but then Cammalleri took over once more. His goal tied the game and broke the momentum the Penguins were building, before Jaroslav Spacek’s first goal in over 50 game sent the Bell Centre into an absolute frenzy.

The Canadiens kept the pressure up as the period progressed, drawing a late penalty and putting all sorts of pressure on the Penguins as the seconds ticked off the clock for the end of the period. Having their home crowd stand and cheer their hearts out all throughout a television timeout also seemed to inspire them, and why wouldn’t it?

Cammalleri now has 11 goals in the playoffs, and if the Habs are able to pull off a series win there’s no doubt who the Conn Smythe favorite will be.
