Staal practices, closer to returning

Jordan Staal may not play in Game 4 tomorrow in Montreal, but he’s getting ever closer to doing what many (including myself) would be impossible and returning in time to face the Canadiens in the second round.

Staal was initially thought to be out for the playoffs when it was reported he had surgery to repair a severed tendon on the top of his foot. Now, mere days later, he took part in an optional skate for the Penguins in full gear and was able to put weight on his foot.

The team has maintained Staal as day-to-day with the injury, although I’d hope that he wouldn’t return until he and the team are sure he’d at least be effective. Per James Mirtle, it seems that Dan Bylsma is optimistic:

“If he can skate like that, there’s a possibility (he’ll play) depending on how he is in the morning.”
