Kane sends it to OT, Hossa gets 5 minute major

Maybe Patrick Kane gained some last minute heroism through Zach Parise osmosis. The American-born winger scored a goal when the Blackhawks needed it the most, tying the game 5-5 with about 14 seconds left.

The situation looked dire for the Blackhawks in the final minute. Marian Hossa pushed Predators defenseman at the exact worst moment, sending the free-agent-to-be in the boards. This earned the roving bridesmaid a 5-minute boarding major and a game misconduct. At first, it seemed like the play would be a factor only in Game 6 since there’s the possibility of a suspension.

The good news, though, is that Kane made the penalty a factor in this game. His rebound goal came with the team in an odd 5-on-5 empty net situation. Something tells me the Blackhawks are at least somewhat OK with killing 3:56 of powerplay in overtime of a game they seemed primed to lose just moments ago.

Then again, this would be a heck of a time for the Predators to break their post-season powerplay slump ...
