2010 NHL playoffs: Niemi shuts out Preds, 2-0

Game 2: Final - Chicago Blackhawks 2, Nashville Predators 0

Series tied 1-1

This time, the shotty ice in Chicago wouldn’t betray Antti Niemi.

In game one, after two solid periods, Niemi allowed a bouncing backhand to beat him glove side, a goal that tied the game and took the air out of the Chicago offense. Sunday night, it was nearly the same game; the Blackhawks had grossly outshot the Predators 26-12 through 40 minutes, and the Predators started to put the pressure on once more in the third period. This time, Niemi was up to the challenge and turned away all 11 shots in the final frame.

So, perhaps we can set aside the goaltender controversy for now. NIemi was far from bad in the first game, and now he has the first shutout for the Blackhawks in the playoffs since 1996.
