Video: Defense dries up in the desert

The Western Conference is supposed to be the buttoned-down, defensively superior side of the NHL compared to the loose, semi-soft Eastern Conference. If anything else, the Phoenix Coyotes seemed like they would never be a part of a shooting gallery (unless they had a meltdown and the “shooting” was particularly one-sided.) Yet, that’s exactly what happened amid an amazing atmosphere in Arizona. The Red Wings and Coyotes combined for a dizzying five goals in four minutes during the second period of what would ultimately be a 7-4 Detroit win. Let’s not forget that Henrik Zetterberg was one of the stars of last night’s action, either, with a hat trick to help remind the hockey world that he’s still one of the sport’s best.
