Oduya at peace with trade to Thrashers

Johnny Oduya spoke with Rich Chere of The Star-Ledger about being traded from the New Jersey Devils to the Atlanta Thrashers, in the deal that sent Ilya Kovalchuk in the other direction. What’s notable about the story? He found out about the trade while watching Avatar.

“I turned on my phone halfway through the movie,” Oduya recalled. “I had 40 messages so I understood something was going on. I didn’t know anything before.

“It was Avatar, so it was a three-hour movie. I don’t know how much exactly was left. We watched the rest and then I got out and called Lou (Lamoriello) and talked to him a little bit.”

Oduya goes on to say that he doesn’t have a problem with being traded from the Devils, after he had just signed a 3-year contract last summer.

It’s always tough to go from a team that is playoff bound, and making moves in order to push for a hopeful Stanley Cup, to a team that has struggled in mediocrity year after year. With the Thrashers’ season nearing its end, there is one good thing about being in Atlanta: the golf in the area is incredible.
