Panic setting in for the Senators?

Things are getting serious up in Ottawa. The Senators are yet another team that is struggling coming out of the Olympic break, after winning 14-of-16 games heading into March. There was the hope that Ottawa would be able to lock down a division title and home ice in at least the first round, but now it may become a fight just to stay in a playoff spot.

The Senators have one just one game in March, coming against the lowly Edmonton Oilers and have earned just three points out of a possible 12. Can you feel a momentous collapse on its way?

“We definitely want to start winning more. We can’t rest on laurels and what we did before the break,” said centre Jason Spezza, who scored the Senators’ lone goal Saturday. “It’s time to start peaking and getting ready for the playoffs. If we don’t watch it, teams are going to be coming pretty quick. This is definitely something we need to address.”

The Senators were shellacked on the road by Vancouver, which isn’t all that surprising considering how the Canucks have played lately, but the big concern was how the Senators just look completely disinterested in even playing.

“We came out pretty flat and didn’t generate a whole lot,” said Fisher. “Give them credit, they played very well at home, they didn’t give us much offensively and outworked us most of the game. We didn’t show up. There was no excuse for it. We know we’ve got to be much better.

“We’ve just got to put this behind us. They looked good, but we didn’t stick to our game and play the way we can. It was frustrating and one we want to forget.”

The Senators are still seven points ahead of 8th place Boston
