Chicago cashes in on 5-on-3 to make it 2-0

What else can be said about Jonathan Toews? The young captain got in front of the net and banged in a rebound from a missed opportunity by Patrick Sharp during a 5-on-3 powerplay.

The two PPs came because of dual brain farts by the Capitals’ prized forwards Alex Ovechkin and Alex Semin.

For a second, it looked like it was going to be a disastrous 5-minute man advantage for the Blackhawks. In the final minute of a fruitless PP, Alex Semin had a partial breakaway but couldn’t quite calm the puck down until the last second. After failing to score, Semin dimly crashed into Chicago goalie Antti Niemi with little indication that he tried to stop and deservingly received a goalie interference penalty. That’s two bad penalties for Semin in one period.
