- I couldn’t help but snicker at people who were pulling a Chicken Little act with Alex Ovechkin’s supposed “slump” but the Russian superstar might have some added motivation to start filling the net again. Sidney Crosby just scored his second goal of the game to give the Penguins a 5-3 lead early in the third period against Dallas. This gives Crosby the NHL goal scoring lead at 44. He was previously tied with Ovechkin, who has 42 goals and will play the Rangers tonight. (Update: Alexei Ponikarovsky also scored his first goal with the Penguins, making the game 6-3.)
- Obviously, this means that Kari Lehtonen’s first start in nearly a year has not gone very well. He’s allowed 5 goals on 28 shots – a mixture of goals that were his fault and goals in which his defense hung him out to dry (I imagine some Stars fans are nodding knowingly). The Penguins aren’t exactly an ideal team for a rusty goalie.
- Minnesota Star Tribune Michael Russo reporter just Tweeted that Derek Boogaard will indeed be suspended for 2 games. Here are a few of Russo’s recent Tweets:
“Boogaard loses $21,341.46 of salary bc he’s now a repeat offender. Loses salary based on games, not days.”
Boogaard:”It wasn’t like it was an intent to injure or anything … . Was just finishing my hit. It’s not like I’m going out to hurt guys.”
Update: Here’s Russo’s blog post, in case you’re not into that whole brevity thing.
